On March 1, 2026, a delegation from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) visited the School of Psychology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). The two sides held in-depth discussions on deepening collaboration and promoting academic exchange. The delegation included Professor CHAN Che Hin Chetwyn, Vice President of EdUHK; Professor HOU Wai Kai; Associate Professor KUO Chih Chien Michael ; Assistant Professor WONG Man Lok Nichol; and Assistant Professor WONG Ho Yin Clive. Also in attendance were Professor Li Chunbo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chief Physician at the Shanghai Mental Health Center, and Chief Physician Guo Xiaoyun from the same institution, as well as representatives from the School of Psychology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University: Professor Fu Xiaolan, Dean; Wang Xifang, Party Secretary; Professor Yuan Tifei, Executive Dean; Professor Chen Antao, Vice Dean; Associate Researcher Wang Lihui, Dean’s Assistant; and other faculty members.
During the discussion session, Professor FU Xiaolan extended a warm welcome to the delegation. She noted that the School of Psychology at SJTU is committed to building a high-level platform for psychology education and research with an international outlook and Chinese characteristics. She expressed the hope that the visit would serve as an opportunity for the two sides to pursue practical cooperation in areas including talent development and scientific research.
Professor CHAN Che Hin Chetwyn thanked SJTU’s School of Psychology for its warm reception and introduced EdUHK’s distinctive strengths and research advantages in psychology, particularly its strong foundation in educational psychology and developmental psychology. He noted that the two institutions each have distinctive strengths in their disciplinary structures and research areas, offering broad prospects for collaboration. He expressed the hope that the two sides could pursue closer collaboration in interdisciplinary research and academic resource sharing.
Professor Yuan Tifei and Professor HOU Wai Kai subsequently gave detailed presentations on the development history, disciplinary development, faculty, and research progress of the School of Psychology of SJTU and the Department of Psychology of EdUHK, respectively.
Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on future collaboration priorities, covering joint research, talent training and academic exchanges. They expressed the hope of leveraging their respective geographical advantages and research expertise, actively integrating their efforts into the national strategic development of key regions, promoting deeper integration between psychological research and social services, and contributing to coordinated development in psychology across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta.

Professor HOU Wai Kai, Associate Professor KUO Chih Chien Michael, Assistant Professor WONG Man Lok Nichol, and Assistant Professor WONG Ho Yin Clive from EdUHK delivered presentations on cutting-edge topics, including “From Social Determinants of Health to the Behavioral and Neural Mechanisms of Everyday Resilience,” “The Effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Patients with Cognitive Impairment,” “Loneliness and Emotional Processing from a Multimodal Neuroscience Perspective,” and “Precision Psychiatry and Neuromodulation Based on EEG.”
Professor Li Chunbo and Chief Physician Guo Xiaoyun from the Shanghai Mental Health Center presented their latest research on “The Effects of 40-Hz Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation on Neural Synchronization and Cognitive Function in Patients with Schizophrenia” and “Depression Comorbid with Physical Diseases,” respectively, highlighting recent advances at the intersection of clinical practice and scientific research.
Professors Chen Antao, Associate Professor,Zhang Bei, Associate Researcher Chen Xiao, Assistant Researcher Liu Feng Assistant Professor Wu Xinran , Associate Professor Liu Jin , and Professor Zhang Yu from the School of Psychology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, subsequently presented their latest research findings and academic insights covering a host of frontier topics, including “Neural Mechanisms of Cognitive Control and Their Clinical Applications,” “Mechanisms and Risk Prediction of Suicidal Behavior Based on Multi-Omics Big Data,” “Neural Mechanisms and Interventions for Depression,” “Psychologically Interpretable Technology for Emotion Recognition from Facial Expressions in Mental Disorders,” “Brain Imaging Markers and Risk Factors of Childhood Mental Disorders,” “Neural Mechanisms Underlying Individual Cognitive Differences and Learning Plasticity,” and “Brain Cognitive Modeling and Neural Encoding and Decoding.”
The visit not only deepened mutual understanding between EdUHK and the School of Psychology at SJTU, but also laid a solid foundation for substantive, high-level, and in-depth cooperation in psychology. Both sides look forward to building consensus, strengthening research collaboration and joint talent development, and working together to advance the discipline of psychology, while contributing their expertise and efforts to the development of society through psychological research and practice.
