On behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Zhao Wenhua congratulated the official launch of the bilateral cooperation initiative. He stated that the collaboration serves as a proactive move to implement national strategies and address contemporary societal needs, as well as a key measure to advance interdisciplinary integration between medicine and psychology, enable resource sharing, and foster complementary strengths. He expressed his hope that both sides will further deepen their partnership to build high-level platforms for scientific research and innovation, cultivate interdisciplinary professional talents, advance full-cycle health service models, and foster an open, inclusive and shared cooperation ecosystem. Jointly, the two parties will strive to bolster the high-quality development of children’s physical and mental health in China and better safeguard children’s healthy growth and well-being.
Fu Xiaolan extended a warm welcome to the experts and colleagues present on behalf of the School of Psychology of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and expressed sincere respect to Shanghai Children’s Medical Center for actively advancing the cooperation. She stated that, as a top children’s specialty hospital in China, Shanghai Children’s Medical Center has for many years continued to work deeply in fields such as pediatric clinical diagnosis and treatment, critical care, medical research, and health science popularization. It has also taken the lead in recognizing the importance of “coordinated protection of physical health and mental health” and has actively explored pathways for interdisciplinary cooperation, laying a solid foundation for collaboration between the two sides. Since its establishment, the School of Psychology has always been guided by the principle of “standing at the disciplinary frontier and serving social needs,” and has also actively explored ways to promote children’s mental health in both scientific research and practical application. She expressed the hope that the two sides will complement each other’s strengths and move forward hand in hand, working together across the three dimensions of medicine, scientific research, and teaching to promote strong cooperation between “medicine + psychology” and jointly create a “new model” for protecting children’s health.
Yuan Tifei and Hong Li signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the two respective institutions. Zhao Wenhua, Fu Xiaolan, Zhou Huifang and Wang Xifang witnessed the signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, the two sides will establish an interdisciplinary core team and advance cooperation in three major areas. First, in medical services, the two sides will jointly establish a “Children’s Mental Health Center” and jointly form a team to provide psychological service support such as psychological counseling, psychological assessment, and emotion recognition. Second, in scientific research, the two sides will cooperate in conducting research related to children’s mental health in areas including clinical real-world studies, brain and cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and the interdisciplinary integration of medicine and engineering. Third, in teaching, the two sides will jointly carry out educational activities such as the design of children’s mental health courses and the formulation of training programs.
Subsequently, Zhao Wenhua, Fu Xiaolan, Zhou Huifang, and Wang Xifang jointly unveiled the “Shanghai Jiao Tong University Innovation Practice Base for Children’s Mental Health,” marking the official launch of the cooperation platform.
The agreement signing and base unveiling mark a substantive milestone in the integrated development of “medicine + psychology” between the School of Psychology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Shanghai Children’s Medical Center. Both parties affirmed that they will build on this new cooperation starting point to further focus on the psychological development and health promotion of children and adolescents. The two sides will establish a more comprehensive, professional dual protection system for children’s physical and mental health — with a particular focus on children affected by rare diseases — so as to advance the implementation of the Healthy China initiative.
